The sala, deteriorated from age and climate conditions, was reconstructed in 2006 under the auspices of His Majesty and rededicated in 2008 by his and Queen Sirikit's daughter, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. THAI PAVILION – The pavilion, or sala, was a gift from King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand who dedicated the original structure in 1967. JAPANESE TEAHOUSE – Traditional tea ceremonies are held at the teahouse, overlooking the Japanese Garden. JAPANESE GARDEN– Located behind the Conference Center, this serene garden was the gift of a group of Japanese businessmen and the result of a 1963 East-West Center project on landscape architecture that involved specialists from Asia, the Pacific and the United States. Burns Hall features exhibitions of art and other cultural manifestations of the region. Today it hosts many events, including an annual international conference of graduate students hosted by the Center's own student community.ĮAST-WEST CENTER GALLERY – The Gallery on the first floor of John A. In 1984, through community efforts, its interior was renovated to create an international conference facility. JEFFERSON HALL, home to the Hawai'i Imin International Conference Center: Designed by the acclaimed Modernist architect I.M. The Center campus is the location for collaborative educational, capacity-building, and research programs that bring together graduate students and professional participants from throughout Asia, the Pacific, and the United States.
The Center’s lush 21-acre campus includes conference facilities three residence halls and office building housing research, program, and administrative activities. The East-West Center is located in Honolulu, Hawai'i, three miles from Waikiki and adjacent to the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. The international dorm Hale Manoa rises at the left. Incoming graduate students gather in the Japanese garden behind Jefferson Hall.
